Eyelid Surgery

(Blepharoplasty)

Drooping of the eyebrows, stretching of eyelid skin and bulging of the inner fat layers are common age related facial changes. The skin of the upper eyelids gathers in loose folds and can sometimes obstruct vision. Slackening of inner support tissues allows the lower eyelid to droop and the inner fat layer to bulge forward, giving rise to a ‘bags under the eyes’ appearance. These changes, probably more than any other facial changes, give rise to a sad, tired and aged appearance. Some individuals (and families) can develop these changes in their 20’s.

Blepharoplasty is a procedure which may be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids, depending on the individual. Blepharoplasty may involve one or more of the following procedures: removal of excessive skin and fat, tightening of support tissues and/or filling of hollows. These procedures are performed via inconspicuous scars hidden within the natural folds of the eyelids, usually resulting in an enormous improvement in overall facial appearance.
