Tummy Tuck

(Abdominoplasty)

A “tummy tuck” is also known as an abdominoplasty or abdominal reduction. This operation can help overcome the problems of excessive loose abdominal skin and/or bulging of the abdominal wall due to muscle weakness or separation. These problems commonly occur in women following pregnancy but they may also occur after weight loss or with ageing. In such individuals there is usually little improvement in their abdominal contour and appearance despite appropriate dieting and exercise.

There are several different types of abdominoplasty however commonly it involves removal of excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen, together with tightening of the underlying abdominal muscles. The procedure may also include liposuction. The result is a flatter, firmer abdomen with an improved contour. After the procedure both men and women commonly report increased confidence when wearing tight or revealing clothing, such as swimsuits. They also report improved abdominal strength which can be particularly beneficial for those with back pain.
